The New Deputy Minister of External Affairs assumes duties |

At a ceremony to welcome the new Deputy Minister of External Affairs, Neomal Perera held at the Ministry on 29th November 2010, Prof. G. L. Peiris, Minister of External Affairs, stated that foreign relations was a key area and it was necessary to formulate policies and implement them to benefit development objectives. Minister Peiris also expressed confidence that Deputy Minister Perera would make significant contribution in taking forward Sri Lanka’s foreign relations and the work of the Ministry.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Minister Perera, who was welcomed by senior officials of the Ministry upon his arrival, stated that among the responsibilities of the Ministry of External Affairs, trade and migrant workers played a key role. He stated that he would work towards ushering in an era where Sri Lankans could go abroad and talk proudly of their country. He also noted that while all challenges had their own share of obstacles, he was confident that the bjectives of President Mahinda Rajapaksa in making Sri Lanka the wonder of Asia could be achieved.
Minister of Cooperatives and Internal Trade, Johnston Fernando also addressed the gathering.
Religious dignitaries, Parliamentarians, Secretary, External Affairs Romesh Jayasinghe and Ministry officials were present on the occasion.
