Food carving, cake and card making were the highlights of an hour-long workshop that was held at the Sri Lankan Ambassador’s residence on the third day of Eid Al-Fitr.  The Event was attended by Sri Lankan friends from the diplomatic fraternity, spouses of Asian ambassadors, Kuwaiti women’s League (KWL) and distinguished personalities from the Sri Lankan community in Kuwait.

Sri Lankan Ambassador’s spouse, Ramanika Dissanayake hosted the event where she demonstrated how a greeting card is made from recycled materials.  Dissanayake was lauded for her talent that was shared with guests.  “I learnt how to make a card from our diplomatic postings.  I want to share these (skills ) with everybody, and so I thought the only way to share was to organize a small event which showcased talents”, she said. “Card making is easy and can be very rewarding when you see the final outcome,”  she added.

Dissanayake added that little information and knowledge, if shared with others can go a long way and could surely make a difference to a family, a community and a nation as a whole.

Another presenter was Moulina Ahmed.  She demonstrated her talent in food carving – made from vegetables and fruits.  “When you present delicious food, it will be more appetizing when it is served with a little design,”  she said.  “It adds appeal to the eyes and so even before eating, you already have some beautiful feelings about partaking the food,” she said.

Mumtaz Fareen also demonstrated her skills in cake making.  A highly respected home-chef in her own right, Fareen shared a simple but an artistically much-attractive cake preparation.  The event also witnessed the unveiling of a Sri Lankan magazine called “Seva Vanitha Unit”, a magazine dedicated to Sri Lankan community that was complete with all the events that had taken place during the past year.  The Sri Lankan Ambassador to Kuwait, Sarath Dissanayake thanked visitors for their interest, most importantly, sharing their time during the busy third day of Edi Al Fitr.
