Ambassador, C.A.H.M. Wijeratne met with Representatives of the Sri Lankan Associations in Kuwait PDF Print E-mail

The Sri Lankan Ambassador to Kuwait, Mr. C.A.H.M. Wijeratne  on 9th July 2011 met with representatives of the Sri Lankan Associations in Kuwait. 

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Wijeratne appreciated the invaluable services rendered to the motherland by the Sri Lankan Associations in Kuwait.  He also mentioned with appreciation the contributions made by the Sri Lankan expatriates  in Kuwait to boost  Sri Lanka’s economy with their much valued foreign exchange remittances.   “While trying to improve the existing standards of the Sri Lankan domestic workers in Kuwait, my concentration is more on promoting the skilled and professional categories"  explained the Ambassador.  He stressed the importance of creating a database to gather information about Sri Lankan professionals in Kuwait.  

 

Ambassador said, there are currently about 500 inmates at the overcrowded Embassy safe-house and he is going to reduce the number by expediting the repatriation process. The Sri Lankan Association Representatives also agreed to extend their fullest support and cooperation to the Ambassador for the immediate repatriation of the inmates.  

The welcome address and the vote of thanks were delivered by Mr. Sugeeshwara Bandara, Second Secretary of the Embassy.
