Musical Show in Kuwait in aid of Children of “Ranaviru” families |

A Musical Evening organized by the “Society of Sri Lankans in Kuwiat” (SOSK) with the help of the Embassy was held on 22nd June In Kuwait. Two leading artists from Sri Lanka namely Mr. Sunil Edirisinghe and Ms. Deepika Priyadharshani Peiris together with a 5-member orchestra which comprised of Mr. Suresh Kanishta Maliyadde, Mr. Hemapriya Kalani Perera, Mr. Janaka Bogoda, Mr. Mahinda Palitha Wiesundara Banda and Mr. Hemapala Gallage took part in the musical extravaganza. The proceeds of the show will be utilized in aid of supporting 100 students of Ranaviru families whose fathers have died iin action.

During the 3-hour long performance, the duo mesmerized the audience with their lively performance of singing, both classical and modern songs for which the orchestra provided musical beats and melody, much to the delight of the crowd. The show also gave an opportunity for the Sri Lankan community to enjoy some popular songs of the two artists and experience a rare musical feast. The event was well attended by over 500 musical fans.

The SOSK President, Mr. Jayakumar Somasundaram addressed the gathering and thanked those who joined the show for their commitment to a worthy cause. He made a special mention of the Ranaviruvo” who have paid the supreme sacrifice to liberate the motherland from terrorism and went on to appreciate their invaluable service to the nation. He also paid a special tribute to the membership of SOSK for their support and contribution toward making this event a reality.
Mr. Chandana Karunanayake, Secretary/SOSK also addressed the gathering and briefed the audience on the arrangements made by the SOSK to support 100 students of war hero families and thanked the Ministry of Defence for helping them with selection of scholarship recipients.

Ambassador Sarath Dissanayake, in his address thanked the SOSK and the invitees for their commitment and care for the fallen war heroes. He also thanked the Sri Lankan community in Kuwait for supporting their motherland with donations in cash and kind, specially the servicemen who have scarified their lives to bring peace to the country. He also thanked the government and people of Kuwait for their magnanimity towards IDPs.
The show was a success and generated lot of enthusiasm and interest among the guests. The proceeds will be utilized to support 100 families with scholarships to children each worth Rs. 120,000/- which will be effective for ten years.
