Out of sheer compassion, a group of Sri Lankan well-wishers joined hands to help a Sri Lankan woman in distress towards realizing her dream of having a family reunion almost after 22 years. W.M. Chandrika, a teacher by profession came to Kuwait 22 years ago in search of a better future for her family in Sri Lanka. Having dashed her hopes and ended up in a state of despair she approached the Sri Lankan Embassy in Kuwait recently and narrated her tale to the officials. Her agony was too much to bear and was further compounded by her life threatening health ailments and financial liabilities. The embassy officials soon sprang into action and sent an urgent appeal for donations from Sri Lankan well-wishers in the community. The response was overwhelming. Within a matter of few days a group of following volunteers came into her rescue and enlivened her hopes. Just last month they all converged on the Embassy and handed their donations to the Embassy staff in the presence of Chandrika.
1. Mr. S.N. Christopher/ Sri Lanka Manpower Association- KD 250 2. Mr. Ranjith Ukwatta / Sri Lanka Cultural Association – KD 60 3. Mr. C. Samarasinghe / Subasahana United Society - KD 50 4. Mr. Haider Ali, Arabian Gulf – KD 80
With the generous donations extended by the Sri Lankans, Chandrika will soon be able to return to Sri Lanka for a family reunion almost after two decades which will bring fond memories and her loved ones together. Accepting their funds Chandrika expressed her heartfelt gratitude to those who supported her cause. The Ambassador thanked each and everyone in the group for their generosity and concern towards a needy.
On behalf of all Sri Lankans in Kuwait we wish Chandrika a happy life with her loved ones back in Sri Lanka.
