Rev. Father Felix Mellawarachchy, Cathedral Director of the Diocese, who served the Sri Lankan community as the Spiritual Director since 2006, left Kuwait on 7th June upon completion of over 3½ years of community services.
Father Felix Mellawarachchy, before his priesthood had a brief stint with the Ceylon Ceramic Corporation and later became a priest in 1992. He studied in India and Italy and travelled extensively on missionary services as a priest. Father Mellawarachchy served at the Negombo Don Bosco Technical Institution as Director from 2000 – 2005 prior to his assignment in Kuwait.
Father Mellawarachchy became very popular among the Sri Lankan community due to his active involvement in community affairs and invaluable services toward the upliftment of spiritual, moral, educational backgrounds of the Sri Lankan migrant workers. He served everybody alike irrespective of ethnic, religious,social backgrounds etc. and was loved by all. It has been a pleasure for us at the Embassy to have known Father Mellawarachchy so well right throughout who has been such a caring father and an effective leader, communicator, counselor etc. Father Mellawarachchy’s contribution to the community has been outstanding and his departure will be a great loss to the people.
On behalf of the Sri Lankan community in Kuwait we take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt appreciation to Father Mellawarachchy for his magnanimity and goodwill towards the Sri Lankan community. We wish him all the best and continued success in all his future endeavours. Prior to his departure, he was hosted to a farewell dinner by the Ambassador and the community at the Ambassador’s residence.
May Father Mellawarachchy be blessed with continued success, wellbeing and happiness.
