The “Divaina” newspaper of 21st March 2010 carried an article in its “Middle East Review” section alleging that the staff of the Sri Lankan Embassy in Kuwait has labeled an innocent man as a drug addict who was caught with drugs in his possession at the Embassy male safe house on 22nd October 2010.  In the article, malicious charges have been made to the effect that the Embassy staff has handed over the innocent man to the Jabriya Police on drug related charges and that he has since gone missing and possibly dead due to police cruelty.

The Embassy, while vehemently denying the accusations leveled against the staff has made representations to the newspaper editorial board through the Foreign Ministry in Colombo, following which a rebuttal was published in the “Divaina” newspaper on  4th April 2010.
