The Sri Lankan National School which  hitherto offered  Sinhala Language Supporting Classes at Don Bosco School in Salmiya on Fridays has shifted its operations to the Indian School in Jabriya commencing  5th October due to unavoidable circumstances.  A decision to this effect was taken in early October by the School Committee in consultation with the Sri Lankan Ambassador   ( Patron of the School ) following which the Jabriya Indian School authorities on a request made by the Sri Lankan Embassy granted approval to accommodate classes within its premises as a goodwill gesture.

Friday classes were resumed at the Jabriya Indian School on 5th October following a brief ceremony organized by the members of the School Development Committee viz. Mr. Dimuthu Prasanna, Chairman, Mr. Daniel Gamage, Secretary and Mr. Palitha Ranepura, Chief Organizer under the patronage of the Ambassador at which  D.K. Sharma, Manager represented the school.

Delivering a speech, Ambassador welcomed all those present and appreciated their support and cooperation for the smooth functioning of classes despite difficulties.  He made the point that  Jabriya school which is conveniently located to all became a reality, thanks to the generosity of Ms. Usha Vargesh, Principle and Mr. D.K. Sharma, Manager of the School.  Elaborating further, he appealed to the parents and the students alike to maintain strict discipline and due decorum in order to safeguard the interests of all concerned.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Daniel Gamage invited children to make the best use of school facilities for the betterment of their language skills and to widen their knowledge of Sri Lanka’s culture, arts and history.  He also thanked the teachers and parents for their support and encouragement for the school.   The parents and well-wishers spoke highly of the initiative taken by the school committee and the Embassy and expressed their blessings and support for this worthy endeavour.  At the end, light snacks and refreshments were served.

It was decided later by the school committee to run an advertisement on the   Sri Lankan TV channels with regard to the resumption of Friday Classes at the Jabriya Indian School.
