Sri Lankan Chef from Crown Plaza wins 7 medals at “Food Olympic 2010” PDF Print E-mail

Mr. Indika de Silva, Kitchen Sous-Chef of Crowne Plaza Hotel in Kuwait who is a world renowned culinary expert and master-chef from Sri Lanka with a brilliant track record in the hotel sector has won 1 Gold, 2 Silver and  4 Bronze medals at the prestigious “14th  Annual Culinary World Cup 2010” dubbed “Food World Cup” held from 20th – 24th November in Luxemburg hosted by world Associations of Chefs Societies.

his International culinary event ranges second on the worldwide level.  25 National Teams, 10 National Military Teams, 10 National Junior Teams, 10 Collective Catering Teams and many individual chefs and confectioners competed in this outstanding culinary event. 

Mr. de Silva upon his return from Luxemburg met the Ambassador on  2nd December 2010, accompanied by Mr. Leo Perera, Senior Manager and  Mr. Sisira Senaratne, Food & Beverage Manager.  The Ambassador welcomed Mr. De Silva and extended congratulations to him on his rare feat of being the only Chef from Kuwait to have excelled in all three events and to have won 7 medals at this year’s Food World Cup.  Ambassador also said that Mr. De Silva has done his country proud and brought honor to Crowne Plaza Hotel which he represented for the first time.   It was further noted that Mr. De Silva has won gold, silver and bronze medals at the  “Culinary Olympics 2004” in Germany and a silver medal in “Food Asia 2004” in Singapore. 

The Crowne Plaza Hotel staff present on the occasion said that the Crowne Plaza Hotel is indeed honored to have Mr. De Silva with them, who has brought fame to the hotel with his accomplishments in international culinary / food competitions.  The Chef, De Silva speaking on the occasion conveyed his appreciation to the Sri Lankan Embassy for the opportunity to display his talents and said that he is committed to serve Crowne Plaza Hotel with honor and dignity.
