Amid the recent focus on the mega economic development plan for Kuwait and the investment opportunities it will create, the first Economic exhibition for Arab and foreign Embassies was held on 28th and 29th of November 2010 at the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce & Industry ( KCCI ) . The exhibition was inaugurated by the Deputy Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait, H.E. Dr. Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah. The exhibition presented investment opportunities in 38 countries from the Middle East, Asia, Australia, Europe, America and Latin America. Significant number of interested people visited the exhibition during the 2 days which was the first of its kind in Kuwait organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the cooperation of the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) at the KCCI premises.

The Sri Lanka Embassy also participated in the exhibition with limited resources and received a very good response toward investment, Trade and tourism sectors. The Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Dr. Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Ambassador Khalid Sulaiman Al Jarallah, President of the KCCI, H.E. Mr. Ali Mohammed Thunayan Al-Ghanim and the Director of the Economic Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Sheikh Ali Khaled Al-Jaber Al-Sabah visited the Sri Lankan stall and appreciated the quality and attractive Sri Lankan products on display such as handicraft, ornaments, nature, wild life, touristic sights etc as well as the opportunities for investments in the country.

A large number of visitors inquired about the Sri Lanka’s current situation and expressed their interest in doing business with Sri Lanka. The staff on duty disseminated brochures on tourism, investment and other information materials to visitors. Moreover, the interested parties were briefed on the present investment climate and opportunities in Sri Lanka. As an initial step and follow-up to the exhibition, it was decided to showcase information material about Sri Lanka at the KCCI library and to add books on Sri Lanka ( History, culture, politics, trade and investment, tourism etc.) to their collection.

The exhibition opened the doorway for co-operation between Kuwait and the represented countries in a range of sectors. It also enabled the countries to promote their products, services and other areas of interest. The KCCI officials who made excellent arrangements in organizing the two-day exhibition expressed their sincere appreciation to the Sri Lanka Embassy staff for their support and cooperation to make the event a success.

Mr. Sunil Premaratne, Counsellor of the Embass played a vital role and made all arrangments to ensure the successful participation of Sri Lanka at this worthy endeavour. He was assisted throughout the event by Embassy staff including Mr. Asoka Upasena, Ms.Shahira Ousman, Ms. Ayesha Munasinghe, Mr. Nalin de Silva and Mr. Mohamed Nilam. The event generated much awareness and interest among the large number of visitors to the exhibition including parliamentarians, senior officials, diplomats, businessmen, entrepreneurs, investors, media, general public etc. among others.
