Gulf Air to resume flights to Sri Lanka |

The Gulf Air, the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain has announced the re-launching of air services to Colombo and 04 other destinations commencing September / October 2010. This was stated by the CEO of Gulf Air Mr. Samer Majali to a gathering of local and international media at a press conference convened at the Gulf Hotel in Bahrain on 04th August.

Moreover, Mr. Majali said that Gulf Air ( national carrier of Bahrain ) plans to resume 05 frequencies a week to Colombo from 1st October which will benefit the travelers to Sri Lanka with competitive and affordable airfare. It is also noted that Gulf Air operated flights to Sri Lanka until 2002. He further said that the launching of flights to Colombo demonstrates Gulf Air’s new strategy to identify and serve popular tourist destinations. He also identified Sri Lanka as a country with a strong commercial potential and a fast growing market with opportunities for tourism promotions / travel industry. Besides Sri Lanka, the Gulf Air will launch services in September / October to destinations within Yemen, Ethiopia, Iran and Iraq.
Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Kuwait and Bahrain, Sarath Dissanayake along with representatives from other 04 destinations to which Gulf Air flights are to be launched namely, Iraq, Iran, Yemen and Ethiopia., participated in the press conference. In addition, Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to UAE, Mr. Sarath Wijesinghe and Sri Lanka’s Hony. Consul, Mr. Tissa Higgoda were also present.
