As part of the Embassy’s commitments in reaching out to the inmates in the Kuwait prisons, the members of the Sri Lankan Embassy Seva Vanitha Unit together with staff of the Islamic Presentation Committee (IPC)  made a goodwill visit to the Central Jail in Sulaibikhat  on September 2nd, 2009.

The Chairperson of the Seva Vanitha Unit,   Mrs. Ramanika Dissanayake, accompanied by Mr. Herath Yapa, Minister Counsellor and staff members,  Mr. N.M. Ameer,  Miss Roshan Alie & Mrs. Rishanthi Welikanna  as well as Mrs. S. Hassan from the IPC met over 110 female inmates in the prison and inquired about their health, wellbeing and services rendered by the Prison Authorities.  The inmates appreciated the visit by the staff of the Embassy and the IPC, specially during the Holy Month of Ramadan and conveyed their satisfaction at the manner in which they are being treated by the prison authorities.  On this occasion, a consignment of gifts and other essential goods bought by the Embassy Seva Vanitha Unit, out of the contributions extended by the staff were handed over to the inmates, which were very kindly accepted by them with their heartiest greetings.

This visit during the Ramadan festive season has brought warmth and cordiality between the Embassy and the inmates as well as prison authorities which would certainly help further deepen the understanding and goodwill between the Embassy and inmates in the prison.
