Sri Lanka Food Festival lures many Kuwaitis and Foreign Expats

The Sri Lanka Food Festival jointly organized by the Crowne Plaza Hotel and the Sri Lankan Embassy on the occasion of celebrating “Sri Lanka Culture Week” in Kuwait was inaugurated on 28th April at the Al-Ahmadi Restaurant of Crowne Plaza Hotel amidst a gathering of Kuwaiti dignitaries, members of the Diplomatic Corps, media, well-wishers etc.

The members of the Chandana Wickramasinghe Culture Troupe welcomed the guests and escorted them to the Restaurant in a dance parade.

The ceremonial oil lamp was lit by the Chief Guest Ambassador Mohammad Al-Roumi, Director of the Asia Department of the Foreign Ministry, Mr. Sahal Fahad Al Ajmi, Director of the National Council for Culture, Arts & Letters and the Sri Lankan Ambassador Sarath Dissanayake.

The guests who were present at the inaugural dinner hosted by Ambassador Dissanayake admired the authentic cuisine, oriental dishes and spicy food served among a variety of delicacies offered during the two-day festival. They enjoyed the evening, the live display of talents by the dance troupe and entertainment provided by the orchestra. The Restaurant was decorated with handicraft, items, tourism and cultural artifacts depicting Sri Lanka’s beauty, diversity and heritage.

The two-day food festival and the week-long celebrations of Sri Lankan culture from 26th April to 02nd May were well-patronized by the Kuwaitis, foreign expats, Sri Lankan community etc. The activities lined up during the week featured Sri Lanka’s culture, heritage, handicraft, fashion, food and arts that have been much appreciated by the audiences in Kuwait.
