“Srilankikayo Kalasansadaya” in collaboration with the Sri Lankan Embassy in Kuwait celebrated Poson festival at the chancery premises from 4th -6th June. On the occasion of Poson, elaborate arrangements have been made to decorate the Embassy premises with a gigantic pandol, rotating Poson lanterns, and a range of other attractions and illuminations which turned the embassy compound into a typical Poson atmosphere.
The celebrations commenced on 4th June with the participation of a large gathering of devotees belonging to Buddhist, Christian, Hindu & Islamic faiths. The evening began with Buddha Puja which was followed by Aloka Puja. Thereafter, an anusasana was conducted in which the significance of Poson for the Buddhists all over the world was emphasized. The Co-organizers of “Sri Lankikayo Kalasansadaya” namely, Mr. Wasantha Gunasekera and Mr. Jude Livera addressed the invitees and appreciated the support and cooperation extended by the Sri Lankan community and the well-wishers for the Poson celebrations. They also expressed their gratitude to the past and present members of the association for their commitment and dedication toward organizing the Poson festival on a grand scale. They also praised the armed forces for their great service to the nation in eradicating terrorism and uniting the country.
In his address, Ambassador Sarath Dissanayake thanked the “Kalasansadaya” and its members for the excellent arrangements made for the celebration of Poson and invited those present to join hand with the Embassy to help the IDPs with donations. He specially appreciated the membership of “Kalasansadaya” for their hard work and craftsmanship in producing very attractive masterpieces / Poson decorations. Mr. Sunil Sarath Perera, Minister Counsellor also addressed the gathering.
During the 2-day celebrations, a series of Pinkama was held during which the inmates of safe-house took part in a Sil campaign and free meals were offered to over 4000 Sri Lankans at the Dansala held on 4th. A Bhakthi Gee presentation was also conducted.
During the two day festivities, the people participated in the Poson activities contributed over Rs. 100,000/- to the Ministry of Finance in Colombo for the benefit of IDPs and “Ranaviru” families.
